CNY Storm was the first all star team in NYS and continues to be the longest running program in the state!

CNY Storm All Stars began in the fall of 1996, with one team of 16 girls that practiced once a week at Valley Gymnastics in New Hartford, NY. The team was comprised of cheerleaders from Baldwinsville, Liverpool, Sauquoit, Herkimer, Little Falls, Ilion, Gloversville, West Canada, and Whitesboro. The first coach added to the program was Paula (Massarotti) Candella from Whitesboro. The team colors the first two seasons were royal blue, kelly green, and white.

The next season the team moved to the Syracuse area, renting practice space from a local gymnastics gym. The 1998-99 season brought new team colors: purple, black, kelly green, and white and a new staff member, Sue (Toennies) Stanczyk.   The next season the program added their first Junior team and second Senior team.

In July 2004 the program moved into it’s own facility at 130 Hiawatha Place, in Syracuse, NY. By that time the program had grown to include youth, junior, half year, senior, and open teams.

As the program continued to grow additional staff was added over the years: Laurie (White)Sweeney, Alison (Proud) Stangle, Sarah Mara, Jeremiah DeLeon, Faneecia Lloyd, Kristen(Bauersfeld) Kunttu, Cheri (Greco) Lisi, Nicole (Hubbell) Kopiasz, Heidi Conklin, Jennifer Penree, Cathy Lamirande, Kelly White, Aaron Bullis, Pat Lawless, Marc Lang, Nicole (Barzee) Hoag, Nikki Forbes, Randi Flansburg, Shannon Potaczala, Patrick Klase, Rob Ulrich, Nikki Rank, Maurice Jones, Shelly Wilcox, Paige Dudley, Morgan Stirpe, and most recently Emily Blakely and Melissa Lampman.
In October 2007, CNY Storm acquired the Ultimate Cheer All Stars in Albany, NY, adding a second location, hip hop teams, and additional staff: Ann (Grasso) Little, Denise Squadere-Deso, Carol Grasso, Kathy Grasso, Lynsey Ciraulo, Irlene Mayo, Alyssa Roberts, Meegan Mostransky, Stephanie St. Pierre, Eunique Priest, Taran Irwin, Jules Paul, Nicole Praetorius, Chrissy Kawczak, and most recently Vicki Rocheleau and Jabar Cancer.

We began our first Special Needs team during the 2008-2009 season and it has become one of the program’s most rewarding experiences. All of our team’s coaches are volunteers and the whole program fundraises to help offset the team’s expenses.

In March 2009 the CNY Storm Small Senior Level 5 team became the first team in NYS to receive a partial paid bid to the Cheerleading Worlds in Orlando, FL. The team went on to finish 14th out of 68 teams on day one of Worlds and became the first Senior team in NYS to make it to Finals on Day two. We have had a Senior Level 5 team at both the 2010 and 2011 World Championship.

The 2010-2011 season brought Gina Lomen from World Class to our program and Laurie (White) Sweeney back to coaching! The 2010-2011 season we welcomed one of our cheerleaders to coaching: Nick Ball.

The fall of 2011 we'll be returning to our roots by offering a team at Valley Gymnastics!  16 seasons later and 250+ all star athletes and we're excited be back in the Valley area!

In addition to all of the program’s accomplishments on the competition circuit, cheerleaders continuing on to become NCA and UCA instructors and cheering for some of the most prestigious collegiate cheerleading programs in the nation, it has always been about building leaders for the future. CNY Storm works to teach life skills to all of it’s participants. We reward academic achievement, promote community service projects, and work to build respect, responsibility, and character in all of our athletes. Our program hopes to continue teaching life skills through cheerleading and dance for many more years to come!
